Please treat our house with the care and respect you’d use when staying with a friend or family member. Remember to clean up food and drink immediately to prevent rodents and insects.
GUESTS
We do not allow guests to host any events or parties without prior permission from us BEFORE booking. If you would like to host any additional people who are not registered as guests, please check with us BEFORE booking to ensure your gathering would be allowed under AirBnb/VRBO policies.
NO SMOKING
Smoking is not allowed anywhere on our property, whether indoors or out.
KEEP IT CLEAN
Do not leave any dirty dishes in the sink or elsewhere in the cabin, as it attracts rodents and pests. Please take off your shoes inside our cabins.
GARBAGE
We don’t have garbage service, so please take your garbage and recycling with you. On Saturdays (and Wednesday evenings in the summer), you can take your garbage and recycling to the Port Wing Recycling Center. Recycling is free, and each bag of garbage is $4.00 CASH ONLY. You can check their website for current hours and directions.
BONFIRES
Fires are only allowed inside the fire pit on days when the fire level is LOW. You can check the fire warning sign in Port Wing, or you can look it up online at dnr.wi.gov/topic/forestfire/restrictions.asp
- Never leave the fire unattended.
- Make sure the garden hose is easily accessible when starting a fire, so it can be quickly put out in case of emergency.
- Call 911 if the fire becomes uncontrollable.
CONSERVATION
Turn off the AC or heat to conserve energy when not in use, or when leaving the premises. Candles or incense are not allowed. Use flashlights or flameless candles when necessary. Please conserve your water usage (see tips below).
SAFETY
Please close all windows and make sure all doors are locked whenever you leave the property. There are two outdoor security cameras on the property so that we can monitor who is on our property. There are no security cameras inside the house.
HUNTING
No hunting is allowed on our property, and no guns are allowed on the premises.
EARLY CHECK-IN / LATE CHECK-OUT
We will do our best to accommodate early check-in/late check-out, however, sometimes we don’t have time in between guests. It’s best to contact us before booking to see if we can work around your schedule, otherwise reach out as soon as you can to see if we can figure something out.
POTENTIAL FEES
Lost keys will incur a $50 replacement fee. If we smell cigarette smoke inside the cabin after checkout, we will charge an additional $250 cleaning fee. Any damages exceeding the deposit amount will be billed to the guest and reported to AirBnb/VRBO/etc.
SEPTIC
Our cabin uses a septic system for waste treatment. In order to properly maintain our system, please be considerate by limiting your water usage & being mindful of what goes down our drains.
- Septic Safe Products: only use septic safe soaps, cleaners, toilet paper, shampoos, conditioners, or any other products that eventually get flushed or go down the drain. Hazardous chemicals should never go down the drain.
- Washing Hands: lather up first then turn on the water to wash off.
- Faucet leaks: make sure all faucets are fully turned off after use. If you notice any leaks, please contact us for repairs.
- Kitchen: Wash dishes by hand. Scrub with soap first, then turn on the water to rinse them off.
- Kitchen Grease: never pour grease down the drain. Grease will line the drainage pipes and clog the septic system.
- Bathroom Toilets: don’t flush anything down the toilet except human waste and toilet paper. Use the garbage next to the toilet for everything else.
- Brushing Teeth: you can conserve water by turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth, then turning it back on to rinse.
- Showering: our bath tub has a wand for showering, but bathing might be easier. (And it conserves more water!)
- Laundry: Maximize washing machine loads: please only use the washing machine if and when it’s necessary. Try to wait for a full load, and avoid running multiple loads in a row (spread them out as much as possible to avoid overflowing the septic system).
WILDLIFE
We have seen or heard about bears, wolves, lynx, bobcats, deer and other wild animals on our property. Please be mindful, especially with your pets.
- Keep your pets leashed or within a fenced area while outside. Do not leave pets unattended for long periods of time.
- DO NOT feed wildlife, including birds.
- DO NOT leave any food or garbage outside, or anywhere that would attract an animal by smell or sight.
- Always keep a safe distance from wild animals. Carry pepper spray or other deterrents when walking through the woods to scare off any wild animals you may encounter.
